Experience the beauty and adventure of Oman’s vast deserts with our 2-day desert safari from Salalah. Travel through the magnificent Dhofar Mountains, explore the mysterious Lost City of Ubar, and marvel at the sprawling Empty Quarter (Rub’ al Khali). Stay overnight in a traditional Bedouin camp with a private tent, enjoy authentic Omani dinner and breakfast, and witness the captivating desert sunset. For your convenience, we provide guides fluent in English, Italian, German, Polish, and other European languages to ensure the best experience.

Day 1: Ubar, Empty Quarter, and Desert Adventure

Your tour begins around 1 pm, as our 4×4 dune specialist driver picks you up from your hotel in Salalah and Hawana Salalah (Rotana, Fanar, The Club and Juweira Boutique Hotel). If you are staying in Wyndham Mirbat or Alila Hinu Bay, an additional OMR 10 rials will be charged for the pick up per person.

From the city, we’ll take a scenic drive through the Al Qara Mountains (Dhofar Mountains), offering stunning panoramic views of Salalah city. As we pass through the town of Thumrait, you’ll learn about its historical significance as an ancient stop for caravans traveling across the Arabian Peninsula.

Our next stop is the Lost City of Ubar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site also known as the “Atlantis of the Sands” or “Wubar.” This ancient city was buried beneath the desert for centuries and is a must-see for history enthusiasts. Please note: Ubar’s entry ticket is not included. The entrance fee is OMR 3 per person and can pe paid with card directly at the archeological site ticket office.

From Ubar, the journey continues into the Empty Quarter (Rub’ al Khali), the world’s largest sand desert. Here, you’ll experience an adrenaline-pumping sand dune bashing ride in Al Khadaf, while enjoying the stunning beauty of endless rolling dunes. Take a moment to appreciate the stillness of the desert, and try out sandboarding or simply enjoy a peaceful camel watching moment.

As the sun begins to set, we’ll take you to the perfect spot to witness the dramatic colors of the desert sunset. Following this, we head to our Bedouin camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Omani traditional dinner under the stars. You’ll stay overnight in a private Bedouin tent with access to shared toilet facilities. Camp is equipped with simple tent with solid beds and bed linen.

Immerse yourself in the Bedouin culture, feel the cool night breeze of the desert, and gaze at the star-filled sky—an unforgettable experience.

Day 2: Wadi Dawkah and Frankincense Trail

Wake up to the tranquil sounds of the desert and start your day with a traditional Arabic breakfast. After breakfast, bid farewell to the desert and drive toward Wadi Dawkah, a natural park famous for its frankincense trees. This site is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you’ll have the opportunity to walk the trail and explore the historical significance of Oman’s frankincense trade.

After exploring Wadi Dawkah, we will drop you back at the original pickup point in Salalah, Hawana Salalah or Mirbat, completing this two-day desert adventure filled with history, natural beauty, and authentic desert life.

Helpful Tips:

This tour involves walking on uneven, inclined ground.
Desert temperatures vary greatly; bring sun protection and warm clothing.
On windy days, desert sand may cause discomfort; bring eye protection and a scarf.
Passengers must bring identification documents (e.g., passports) for a police checkpoint.
People with back problems or health issues may find the long road trip uncomfortable.
Sand bashing is not recommended for pregnant women, young children, or those with certain medical conditions.
There will be no mobile phone coverage in the desert.

The rare Black Camels, the lost city, now found and the climax of dune bashing in the Empty Quarter and the desert sunset. Finishing with dinner in the desert night and star gazing. Mohammed and his brother were perfect hosts with many interesting and amusing chats in the Land Cruiser travelling there and back. Never a dull moment.  Verified Desert Magic Under a Sky Full of Stars Desert trip was one of the most powerful experiences in Oman. We saw frankincense trees growing in their natural habitat, met camels roaming freely, and enjoyed a camel ride at sunset.  Verified Great Trip with Awesome Guide The trip is fantastic and we had a great time seeing the desert with such magnitude and beautiful sunset. Our guide Muhammad Ali is such a fun and pleasant guy to be with. He picked us up ahead of time and dropped us off right back where we got picked up. Despite very long driving, especially during Ramadan, he tried hard to entertain us and enlightened us with many interesting knowledge along the entire Journey. Żadne nasze pytanie nie pozostało bez wyczerpuj� cej odpowiedzi, co było dla nas kluczowe, by zrozumieć ten fascynuj� cy region. Wycieczka do Wadi Darbat była zorganizowana perfekcyjnie, bez pośpiechu i w świetnej atmosferze. To biuro stawia na jakość i rzetelne informacje, a nie tylko „odklepanie” trasy. A wonderful tour into the desert with Abo Salim. The nature is unique and the sunrise is fantastic. Abo Salim is a great guide who can tell you a lot about the country, its inhabitants and the culture. I had a lot of fun and would love to come back.

We had a wonderful and culturally rich experience with Abo Salim, an omani and local bedouin who went out of his way to make our night in the desert memorable.

Given the option to set camp in a dune close to the bedouin camps for a more private experience, we said yes and did not regret our choice. We picked up food on the way with Abo Salim, incl. camel meat and omani sweets, and made our way to the desert. We got to the dunes at a perfect time to witness the sunset.

Abo Salim has been a very kind, generous and thoughtful guide. He was always willing to help and answer any question.
With him we have seen black camels, beautiful dunes, frankincense trees and infinite stars before going to sleep.

We had a fascinating trip to the desert and it will go down as one of our best holiday memories ever. Our guide was polite, kind and very interesting really bringing the whole experience to life.
We were fascinated to visit the camels on the way, interact with the animals at close quarters and drink camel milk for the first time in our lives.
The desert was beyond brilliant and we enjoyed the thrill of the dune bashing. But the most special moment was when my husband and I were encouraged to climb to a high sand peak and watch the breathtaking beauty of the sunset hand in hand and alone. There was also a sand storm which made the experience very dramatic indeed.
We enjoyed a delicious home cooked supper and breakfast back at the camp and the our guide recounted stories of Omani life 30 years ago as we sat in a Bedouin tent in front of an open fire under the stars. Fantastic all round. We did our tour on Sunday when there was only a handful of other cars in the desert, which made it even more special.
