This Oman desert tour takes you deep into the heart of the desert, where you’ll witness natural wonders, enjoy exhilarating activities, and marvel at the stunning sunset over the dunes.

Tour Itinerary: An Unforgettable Journey

Departure at around 1 pm: Your journey begins in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle, with pick up from your hotel in Salalah and Hawana Salalah (Rotana, Fanar, The Club and Juweira Boutique Hotel). If you are staying in Wyndham Mirbat or Alila Hinu Bay, an additional OMR 10 rials will be charged for the pick up per person.
Our experienced dune specialist driver will guide you through the Al Qara Mountains (Dhofar Mountains), where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Salalah city and its lush surroundings.
Visit the famous Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its frankincense trees. Wander along the trail and explore the natural beauty of this historical location with the guide.
Drive through Thumrait: As you descend from the mountains, you’ll pass through Thumrait, an ancient town that once served as a key stop on the Arabian Peninsula’s caravan routes. This historic town has long been a crossroad for travelers in the region.
Explore the Lost City of Ubar: Your next stop is the legendary Lost City of Ubar, often called the Atlantis of the Sands. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fascinating archaeological treasure that dates back to ancient times. Walk around the ruins and imagine the history that lies beneath the sands. Note: Entry ticket to Ubar is not included in the tour.
The Empty Quarter (Rub’ al Khali): From Ubar, venture into the Empty Quarter, or Rub’ al Khali, the largest continuous sand desert in the world. The sheer vastness of this landscape will leave you in awe. You’ll experience an adrenaline rush as our expert driver takes you sand bashing over the towering dunes. Enjoy activities like sandboarding, camel spotting, and leisurely walks on the golden sands.
Sunset in the Desert: As the day draws to a close, you’ll witness the awe-inspiring sight of the sunset over the desert. The sky turns a rich palette of oranges, pinks, and purples, making this a perfect photo opportunity and a moment to remember forever.
Dinner Option: After the sunset, you can opt for a traditional dinner in the desert for just 5 OMR per person, served at a desert camp. Relax and savor the flavors of Omani cuisine under the stars.
Return to Salalah: After a day full of adventure and unforgettable sights, you’ll be driven back to Salalah, arriving at around 9 pm.

Exclusions: Know Before You Go

Entry ticket to the Wubar Archaeological Site (The Lost City of Ubar) is not included in the tour price. The entrance fee is OMR 3 per person and can pe paid with card directly at the archeological site ticket office.
Dinner in the desert is optional and available for an additional cost of 15 USD per person. Prior reservation is recommended.

Helpful Tips: What to Bring and What to Expect

Rough terrain: This tour involves walking over uneven and inclined ground, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
Desert temperatures: The weather in the desert can change quickly. Bring sun protection, warm clothes for cooler evenings, and plenty of water.
Eye protection: On windy days, sand and gravel can cause discomfort to your eyes, so bring sunglasses and a scarf to cover your face if necessary.
Vehicle capacity: A maximum of 4 passengers per vehicle ensures a more personalized experience and safety.
Identification: A police checkpoint is on the way, so please bring your passport or identification.
Health considerations: The long road trip may be uncomfortable for those with back issues or other medical conditions. Sand bashing is not recommended for pregnant women, young children, or those with certain health conditions.
No mobile coverage: Once in the desert, there will be no mobile phone coverage, so plan accordingly.

The rare Black Camels, the lost city, now found and the climax of dune bashing in the Empty Quarter and the desert sunset. Finishing with dinner in the desert night and star gazing. Mohammed and his brother were perfect hosts with many interesting and amusing chats in the Land Cruiser travelling there and back. Never a dull moment.  Verified Desert Magic Under a Sky Full of Stars Desert trip was one of the most powerful experiences in Oman. We saw frankincense trees growing in their natural habitat, met camels roaming freely, and enjoyed a camel ride at sunset.  Verified Great Trip with Awesome Guide The trip is fantastic and we had a great time seeing the desert with such magnitude and beautiful sunset. Our guide Muhammad Ali is such a fun and pleasant guy to be with. He picked us up ahead of time and dropped us off right back where we got picked up. Despite very long driving, especially during Ramadan, he tried hard to entertain us and enlightened us with many interesting knowledge along the entire Journey.
