Stop At: Al Balid Archeological Site, Sultan Quaboos Street, Salalah 211 Oman

Visit the UNESCO-listed Al Balid Archaeological Site, one of Oman’s most important historical landmarks. Once a thriving ancient port city, Al Balid played a key role in the frankincense trade. Today, you can explore the impressive ruins, including old city walls, gates, and the remains of a grand mosque. The site offers well-maintained walking paths and informative displays, providing insight into Salalah’s rich maritime and trading history.

Stop At: Museum of the Frankincense Land, As Sultan Qaboos Street, Salalah 211 Oman

The museum has artifacts excavated from the ancient sites of Al Baleed, Sumharam and Ubar (Waber)

Stop At: Sumhuram Old City, 49 Sumhuram Street, Salalah 211 Oman

One of the 2 ports, which shipped Frankincense in the past and is located in Khor Rori (4th century BC to the 5th century AD)

Stop At: The Frankincense Trail, Salalah Oman

Ubar Archeological site is important part of Frankincense Trail around 200 kms from Salalah city

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Wadi Dawkah, 83QG+HHH، قيرون حيرتي، Oman

This is Frankincense trees park where visitors can see the actual frankincense tree in the Dhofar Region of Oman, for which it is famous for.

Solo Traveller

The Frankincense Trail was a grand experience from the museum to the tree. Realizing the importance of this incense in trade through the centuries, helped one to appreciate the history of Oman, particularly Salalah. The guide was knowledgeable and curteous. Stopping to purchase camel meat to eat was an added treat. I highly recommend this tour to all traveling through Salalah.
